Today’s unit focused on pronunciation and phonology where we learn how to teach students pronounce English and translate tones and intonations using rise/fall sentences, depending on what they are asking or saying. Different techniques were provided for indicating tones, such as, repeating nonsense words and fluctuating the tone and later applying it to a real sentence. We also want to give the students examples of how native speakers of English say common phrases such as ‘Whatcha wanna do?’, that way they are familiar with sounds. In articulation, we bare in mind what organs create sounds and the manner of articulation is how we create the sounds. Activities include student reading together, teacher over emphasizing parts of words, using mouth diagrams, tongue twisters etc.
