This unit was really beneficial to learn because I knew there were other aspects of the language to teach besides vocabulary, but didn't know what they would fall under. I feel like the go to lesson for teaching English would be vocabulary because it seems easier to teach a lesson on. However, I know that the language structures are also important to know. Teaching language functions was something I had not heard of before, but is logical to teach. Knowing now that there are three categories of teaching English, it makes it easier to me to keep track of teaching all of the aspects of English students needs to learn. Making the sample lessons based on whether the goal was to teach vocabulary, language structures, or language functions, was extremely helpful in understanding the differences in the three and also what activities would work with one but not the others. I feel more prepared to teach about language structures and functions after completing this unit.
