This unit was a great refresher of English grammar and it really helped me understand a lot that I had previously not fully grasped. In particular, the difference between adjectives and adverbs. Adjectives describing nouns and adverbs adding information to the verb. In addition, I learnt about gerunds. I hadn’t previously studied that before and it was an eye opener. I didn’t before realize that gerunds acted as nouns – as either the subject or object of a sentence and were formed by taking the verb and adding ing. For example, I like dancing. Not only this, in the past I often confused comparative and superlative adjectives. This lesson really helped me fully understand the difference and how they are formed. Comparative adjectives for short adjectives are formed by adding er to the adjective followed by the word than. Whereas superlative adjectives are formed by taking short adjectives and adding est to them. For example, I am the tallest in the class. I equally learned that for longer adjectives in relation to comparative adjectives you simply added the word more before the adjective and than after. Similarly, for longer adjectives when forming superlative adjectives, you simply add ‘the most’ before the adjective. All in all, the lesson was very thorough and I got a lot from it.
