Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

This unit helps the teacher select coursebooks and lesson materials. The type of materials suggested are authentic and created materials. Both have their advantages. With authentic materials, the teacher can bring programs, magazine, newspapers, menus, and media to the classroom. These materials are interesting to the student because they are real, which is motivating to the student. They can also be geared to the interests of a particular group. It is important to be cautious with this material, though. Authentic materials are not graded for level and should be selected carefully by the teacher. There is also no lesson or guide associated with authentic materials, which leaves the teacher to design a lesson around them. Created materials are designed by the teacher to either replace a lesson plan or to supplement one from a course book. Commonly created materials can include crosswords, word searches, flashcards, etc. The unit provides great examples on what created materials can look like. Course books are also an important part of this unit. When it comes to ESL books, a course book typically provides a student book, workbook, cassettes, teacher book, and supplementing materials. This type of book has its advantages. This provides the teacher with lesson plans and materials which can be less time consuming on the teacher. A syllabus is provided and it has been tested and graded to a level suitable for students. The students and teacher can also see the progress of the book throughout the semester. There are also disadvantages to a coursebook, too. The book may not fir the specific needs or interests of the students. Solely using the book can make the classroom predictive and boring. The book may be too generalized for all nationalities and may not focus on the in-depth problems a certain nationality may face with learning English. All in all, if a teacher is fortunate enough to select a textbook, they should be well-informed on what criteria to look out for. It is important to use a healthy mix of authentic materials, created materials, and course book usage in order to have a well-balanced lesson and classroom.
