Unit 13 was one of the most informative lessons for me thus far. Having been through school all the way up to finishing the university level, I've never once in my life had an instructor go over the phonemic alphabet. Even though I've seen these symbols in the dictionary before, I've never actually learned what they were up until now. Using the phonemic alphabet to teach the way sounds are made makes a lot of sense for a non native English speaker, when so many of our words have similar spellings, but completely different sounds. I plan on writing this chart out for myself a couple of times to really know it in and out.
