I was curious about this particular unit when I started the ITTT TEFL course. I was wondering exactly where and how we were supposed to get lessons and syllabi. This unit helped me understand a big part of the answer, though I'm guessing that expectations may also vary by school. I understand that teachers will often base their lesson planning of a course book. But at the same time, they should never be limited to this course book. I learned about the importance of finding authentic texts for intermediate students and above. I also learned that a teacher should not hesitate to provide created materials for their classes in order to target the specific needs of that specific group of students. Finally, through the sample materials provided I saw that there are a number of websites that are TEFL resources and that help teachers provide created materials for their classes.
