Conditional sentences are typically sentences that have an ‘if’ clause and a main clause. There are five main types of conditional sentences. Zero Conditional, refer to actions and facts that are irrefutable. First Conditional, speaks of a ‘real’ situation in the future that is possible once the condition has been satisfied. Second Conditional, communicates a present or future ‘unreal’, hypothetical situation that is presently not true and is unlikely to ever be true. Third Conditional, refers to a hypothetical past action and the hypothetical past consequence or result. Mixed Conditional, refers to a hypothetical past action or state, and the hypothetical present consequence. It is typically made by combining a second conditional clause with a third conditional clause. This lesson also covered reported speech. This when you report or indirectly quote what someone has said. When this is done, the speaker must pay attention to the use of the correct pronoun, verb tense, and time expression.
