This unit was all about the two receptive skills involved with language learning: listening and reading. Equally important, listening and reading could be used for two broad categories: for a purpose or for pleasure. This unit also talked about how we listen and read using predictive, deductive, skimming, scanning, and detailed info skills. It also discussed potential problems with listening and reading and how to avoid them, like pre-teaching vocabulary and grammar and selecting texts carefully. This section also put an emphasis on choosing topics wisely and creating interest with each topic so as to cater to the students and their interests so the lesson becomes more exciting and relatable. I can see how taking the time to get to know your students a bit can affect their language learning experience and your effectiveness in the classroom.
