I think it is interesting that teachers don't think that writing in class is important and that many of them assign it as homework. I prefer to write the introduction of a story with the class. Each student gives their own ideas of what the first few sentences should be like and I write them on the board. Then we can pick and choose which sentences and make a great introduction. Each one will be different from the other, and each will have proper grammar and punctuation because they are done in a classroom setting and can be corrected in peer review. This starts every student's story off with a corrected paragraph and purpose that they can constantly refer to when they are working on the stories as homework. It is also important that a proper writing prompt should include many questions that the students need to answer within their writing depending on the kind of story written. This makes them think about important things like the order of the information and the details needed to make it easy for a reader to understand what they are saying. It places a personal responsibility on them that will almost always drive them to create something more interesting to themselves as well as the class.
