This unit was all about lesson planning. Lesson planning is important for several reasons: it's an aid for planning and helps teachers to logically think through the lesson, it's a working document to help keep the teacher on target, and it's a record to keep track of what activities were carried out and if any changes were made to the lesson. This unit gave several highlights that should be on a thorough lesson plan (i.e. date and time, number of students, learner objectives, potential problems, etc.) This unit also included a discussion on monitoring your lessons, which is a way to track your progress and reflect on your work, and an overview of planning a sequence of lessons
I think effective lesson planning is just going to take a lot of practice and putting it into action in order for me to feel more comfortable doing it. Having never done something like this before, it seems like a foreign process. But I know that once I've done it a few more times and seen how it works it will begin to feel more natural. I do see the benefits of having everything all planned out beforehand. It's a sure fire way to be prepared for class.
