Unit two is about all the elements that come together to make a sentence have meaning. Each word in a sentence has a specific purpose in creating this meaning and is classified as parts of speech. Every sentence should have a sentence, a verb and an object in order for it to make the most sense. This is because if a sentence had no subject, we would not know who is performing the action. Just as if there was no object, we wouldn’t know who or what the action was performed on or for whom. As we go further into the unit, we see that various other factors come into play such as nouns, plurals, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverts etc. I have learnt that not only are there these broad categories that make up parts of speech but they are further divided into smaller, more specific classifications. For example, verbs are further broken down into transitive and intransitive verbs with each verb type having their own meaning. It is quite incredible to think that so much thought and effort actually goes into each sentence in order to get the exact message across without confusion. Even though misunderstandings do occur, this is often as a result of a poorly constructed sentence.
