This unit briefly went over what one should do in a first lesson and also some ideas for dealing with possible problems that come up during the course.
The main goal of the first lesson should be not to drill grammar and overload students with material, but to establish report and create a comfortable and relaxed environment where they feel they can have fun learning the language. The first lesson is very important for setting the tone for the rest of the class and if students can get to know and feel comfortable around each other and the teacher, it will help the class run much more smoothly.
Possible problems that may appear throughout the course may be a gap in levels, group sizes, motivation/reluctance to participate, use of native language, etc. All can help hinder the progress of students. Of course there is not a one size fits all solution, but the teacher should try to the best of their ability to address each accordingly.
