This unit was an introduction to coursebooks and lesson materials. I learned what authentic and created materials are, and about the advantages and disadvantages of both. Also included were descriptions of coursebooks, advantages and disadvantages of them, how to best use them, as well as how to analyze coursebooks in preparation for teaching your classes. When looking to use coursebooks in class, it is vital to balance the coursebook material with material you identify and prepare tailored to your students' needs. Coursebooks are compromises and are created to be applicable for a wide consumer base, and so they are typically not tailored for the country in which you are teaching.
