UNIT 11-RECEPTIVE SKILLS
Receptive skills are reading and listening.
There are two main reasons why people read and these are ;
1.For a certain purpose
2.People read out of interest
When teaching receptive skill to students there are few problems that one might face which maybe due to language in the content .That is the sentences might be too long for students or the words might not be familiar to them which makes it harder for them to understand the content.
To resolve this issue its imperative that a teacher pre-teach complex vocabulary that are essential for understanding and also select texts carefully.
Other measures to take including choosing topics that students might find interesting and also creating interesting with various material like video,audio clips,discussions etc. Furthermore including comprehension tasks to help check the students understanding and progress.
In a receptive lesson its important to start with the engage phase and finish off with the activation stage.
