We live in an era where teaching is a very important factor affecting students achievement. In this unit the lesson went over the past tenses. There are four to forms: past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. Past simple is used for actions completed at a definite time in the past. Typically with regular verbs it will add an -ed or -d to the base form of the verb. There are irregular verbs as well which you cannot add -ed to the end. For example like drink and drank. The next form is past continuous which is actions in progress at or close to a specific time in the past. This from uses was/were plus the verb+ing. An example: A few minutes ago, they were still running. We use continuous tense in descriptions. The third form is past perfect which is used when an action was completed at some point in the past before something else happened. This tense is formed with the past tense form of "to have." You should see actions in sentences that occurred before other actions in the past. The last form is past perfect continuous. This form uses longer actions or situations in the past that been going on in the past, continued in the past and also ended at a definite point in the past. This tense is constructed using had been + the verb's present participle. The omission of either "had" or "been" or the failure to add -ing are the main errors with this structure.
