As a newcomer in EFL industry, this topic helped me a lot on how to cope and what to expect when I start as an English teacher. I will start my first lessons with learners in a different levels on a private centers and private/public schools. What I should do in the first meeting is to establish rapport, know each of the student not only by their names but also to check their needs and expectations. I have learned some activities for this purpose. Warmers should depend on the student levels, for example, for kindergartens I personally choose a song. Different levels vary from students' age and language levels, as a teacher I should prepare my materials and be fair at all times. Large classes should be dealt in a controlled manner and I should be clear in all my instructions to avoid learners used their mother tongue. I will encourage them to speak English at all times during the class. I should set this rule in the start of the course and constantly remind them. My voice should be loud and clear so the students from the back could understand and respond to me. I should prepare verbal drilling for the students and use a recorder so I can check the clarity, intonation and pronunciation. As I have mentioned, as teacher I should be fair with all my students even if he/she is the most intelligent in the class. I should give him/her other task while waiting for the rest and keep them busy so they won't disturb their classmates. I will definitely apply what I have learned in this course to my teaching career.
