This unit talked about the different type of conditionals as well as reported speech.
conditionals
zero: talk about an action or fact that is irrefutable. Will happen no matter what. "If" and "when" are interchangeable
First: Talk about something that is possible, probable, or will happen if condition is met.
Second: Talk about a present or future situation that is unlikely true and will probably not ever become true.
Third: Talks about past hypothetical situation and the outcome if it had come true. But it is purely hypothetical and the situation nor outcome has ever or will ever be realized
Mixed: Combination of second and third. Like third conditional but relates a hypothetical past condition to a hypothetical present consequence (vs. a hypothetical past consequence)
When talking about reported speech you must change what has been said (direct speech) to the appropriate reported speech form, otherwise the sentence will not be grammatically correct (ex. present simple to past simple). Both location and time need to be set backwards. This is called backshifting.
