I learned about different course and materials that can be used in order to enhance the classwork. I learned why course books can be used in the class. While course books can have advantages, they can also have disadvantages as well. Some of the advantages I find interesting are that they are expected by the students, they can be less time consuming than creating material, they usually have a good mix of grammar, vocabulary and skill work, can be helpful for inexperienced teachers and the methods are usually tried and true. However, some disadvantage can be they do not fit the needs of all students, it can become predictable, it can make the teacher lazy and keep them from being creative or motivating the students and teachers rarely get to choose what is being taught. There are times when a course book should be used effectively, but there time when authentic and created materials should be used.
