This unit looks at authentic and non-authentic class materials, showing that authentic materials expose students to real-world English, and should be used as often as possible, with consideration of the appropriacy of the material. Non-authentic materials can be created by the teacher, with consideration of how the class will respond to it and use it. The unit also covers lesson planning, showing that it is an important guide or outline of the lesson, as well as an historical document indicative of what the class has covered. The use of course books is also mentioned in the unit, showing how they can be convenient and concise examples of what the class should be learning, but can also hold the teacher back from being creative with materials. Next in the unit, internet usage is mentioned, as well as the importance of ensuring only suitable sites are visited. The final part of the unit shows best practices in classroom management. Things such as gestures, eye contact and monitoring are important towards maintaining the behaviour of the class.
