After reading Unit 3 on Course Development, I have realized that I have much to learn regarding each topic presented in the Unit. My understanding of level testing is extremely rudimentary but practical in terms of my syllabus for most of my students. I was not professionally aware of how much formal academia has already produced in terms of EFL instruction. Methods, the categories of young learners, different functional syllabi, needs analysis, and course evaluation though on a common sense level were already understood, again the meticulous nature of each were not. There is a great deal of learning in the formal aspect of EFL instruction that needs to take place in terms of relating my personal methods to the existing body of work. The efficacy of my methods are apparent - my students speak English at a high level, get A's on their exams, complete essay assignments in a timely fashion, and get high marks in those areas too. What is missing is an understanding of the universe of teaching versus just me teaching on my happy island of joy and proficiency. Thank you ITTT for bringing this to light.
