The past tense system and structure is almost similar to the present tense system. Usage and form almost follow the same pattern. There are alot of common English verbs which have irregular simple past forms. examples are read/read, beat/beat, drive/drove,fight/fought, think/thought, etc. To form a past simple form of a regular verb, you only add -d or -ed to the base form. Past continuous tenses are used in descriptions. Past perfect is used to indicate actions that has been completed. The perfect continuous is nit a frequently used tense. It is used to talk about actions in the past that has been going on for some time up to a moment in the past.
