From Unit 4, I have come to realize that what a famous general said years ago is indeed true "Preparation is the Key to Success." Granted this can be considered cliche but the degree of preparation - 1) Considering potential problem areas for the students 2) Personal goals for the instructor for a particular class 3) Anticipated problems for the instructor and their solutions - definitely increases the probability of success for the class as a whole. Having taught in South Korea since 2007, I can say that in the beginning of my career as an EFL instructor I was required by the Korean government to write lesson plans. Now that I teach privately, I usually use proven techniques, textbooks, online material, and games that expedite in my opinion the realization of a particular learning objective. I no longer think in terms anticipating problems, because from experience I witnessed and resolved a great number of learning issues already. Rather than take note on a piece of paper this issue, I usually reflect on the lesson and see what can be improved. A formal paperwork system could be created but given time constraints this has not been explored. Extensive notes during the class have been my professional guide to monitor and document the progress of my charge. I am grateful that ITTT focuses on specific elements of the teaching experience and succinctly presents ready to use ideas on how to improve pedagogy and the final delivery of the course. Implementation is then the next step.
