This unit focuses on the characteristics of good teachers and students, and argues that the best teachers are able to identify and then foster and encourage the strengths of their students while also addressing weaknesses. This they do through monitoring students' abilities in the classroom, choosing activities that engage and challenge their students, sharing their knowledge, and providing clear and consistent feedback, among other possibilities. One of the most important things I learned from this unit is that, while there are many roles for a teacher to play within a classroom setting, there are also a great deal of tools at my disposal to help increase students' motivation, encourage them to ask questions, and help them ultimately to take responsibility for their own learning.
