I took linguistics when I was in undergrad and I struggled with it so much because I find phonetics to be so difficult. I remember having to make trees and it would take me so long to do them. This lesson brought back a lot of memories because it focused on teaching pronunciation and phonology. I learned about rise/fall. Normally, we speak with a rise then fall, except when we are expecting an answer back, in which we have a fall and then rise. I think it is actually pretty easy to understand this because it just requires that we (native speakers) pay attention to how we normally speak. That is why the advice to "hum" the words works well. For phonology, it requires a lot more memorization. It is more about memorizing the rules/pronunciations.
