In this unit, I have learned about the methodologies, techniques and how to go about identifying the needs of each group. There are 4 groups identified: Beginners, Individual students, Young learners and Business English learners. Teaching beginners may require a lot of effort. Teachers must take into consideration the students’ needs. Pacing must also be considered as being too quick on the lesson may entail confusion. Activities must also best suit the group. Teaching individuals is very beneficial as the teacher will be able to focus on the need of the student. The teacher will be able customize the lessons and activities based on the students’ interests as well maximize the experience on the English language. Teaching children takes a lot of effort as the eacher must be lively and ready to make fun of herself. The teacher must also be patient and ready with repitition. Teaching business english is a bit of challenge since ages may range between 20s to mid 50s. Regular job may also entail irregular attendance as the employer may anytime pull-out the students. The teacher must also be able to balance the needs of the students with those company. Teachers must familiarize themselves on the methodologies and techniques for teaching special groups. A certain methodology may work well with young learners however may not be effective with business english learners. It is important to be able to identify the needs of each group before commencing with the lesson.
