A test is a measuring instrument designed to find out the level of knowledge students have acquired during an English course.
An appropriate way to place new students into correct classes according to their ability is placement tests. Progress tests are useful to gauge what has been learned and remembered, or forgotten in some cases.
The main use of language tests is in general to pinpoint strengths and weakness in the learned abilities of the students.
