There are a number of ways to assess a student's language level: Tutorials, Evaluation by students and tests. Placement tests are used to assist the formation of group of students at the same level. A diagnostic test is designed to tell teachers and the students what they can do and can't do at the beginning of course. Progress tests are used on the work covered. Practice tests can help students get some ideas of how close they are to the required standard. Achievement tests are usually given at the end of a course.
