Learning is important so is evaluating the progress in learning. To teach and not know what a student knows, or their level of proficiency is a disservice to them and the class. Testing is a key component of the overall learning process. If the students do not learn and aren't learning it is helpful to see where they are stuck. The role of the educator is to find out what people aren't learning and help them to learn it. Testing is also good for preparing for tests outside of school. Often the test that measures skill will not take place in the school, so it is the duty of the school to help prepare the student. The overall value of testing should not be ignored. Finding a fun way to evaluate students is also helpful. Regardless evaluation should always occur periodically .
