In this last unit, I learned how the first lesson should go. The first lesson is meant for building rapport, getting to know the students, and to find out the English level of each class member. Activities that can be used during the first lesson are questionnaires, board games, "Pass the Ball" game, and a needs analysis.
It is important to use "warmers" to get the class motivated and excited. Activities such as hangman, Pictionary, tongue twisters, and memory games can be used to get the class excited prior to the lesson.
When you have a large class, you should use a lot of group/pair work, choral repetition, appoint group leaders, etc.
Make sure you are always responding to students in English. Try not to ban their native language, but only use it when its appropriate.
