Course books provide many advantages and disadvantages in the classroom. On the one hand, they provide structured and tested ideas for teaching, which can be useful. on the other hand, they are often outdated, not applicable, or not specific enough to the students' needs. A good teacher will find ways to be creative while still using the course books if desired. The teacher can supplement additional information to go along with the course book lesson. He or she can also take out the parts of the lesson that don't apply to his or her students. They can use a balance of authentic and created materials to create the optimal learning environment for students.
