Teaching special groups like Young and or beginner learners and Business language courses can both be rewarding and also a challenge for any teacher. Young learners can be some of the most challenging and rewarding courses you may teach. These students may come in as multi-lingual or have no grasp of the English language at all. Most young learners do have the ability to grasp onto a language faster than their older/adult counterparts. Whether you have an adult beginner or a child it does not usually change how you teach them the start of the language. Be visible, write clearly, adapt to the situation, control your own language, give simple/clear instructions, ask questions and use pair group work are just a few of the ways you can help manage a classroom for beginners. If teaching individual students there are a few ways to help keep up the pace of your lessons. Try having them read short stories, newspaper articles, pronunciation, videos, music and even reading about taboo words can help engage your student with each lesson. There is also business English classes. These can be done 1-1 or as a company group depending on what situation you are in. Find out what they need before you begin your course, this can be done by filling out a Need analysis form to better judge what your students want and expect. Find out what the company does to better judge what you may need to help them with. Just because you do not know what they are doing for their company is not a bad thing. You can get them to explain it to you in English. Keep records of test scores and attendance for the company to review at the end of your course. Teaching special language courses can be both entertaining and challenging for any teacher and by taking on these challenges as a native speaker we can enrich our teaching experiences.
