This unit discussed coursebooks and lesson materials.
Authentic learning materials are anything a native speaker might read, watch or listen to (e.g. radio, television shows, books, movies, etc.) For many students, authentic materials are more interesting, relevant and are a welcome change from coursebooks. Because, authentic materials are not create for the purpose of learning English, they should be chosen carefully when brought into the classroom.
Created materials are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement material from a course book. Unlike authentic materials, they can be graded to the level of the student.
Various advantages and disadvantages of course books were also discussed in this unit.
