This was a very brief unit compared to the previous one. This unit discussed the differences between authentic materials used in a classroom versus created materials for a classroom. The unit also discussed some of the advantages and disadvantages of both these types of materials, as well as some of the major course books available today and what all these sets should include. This unit mostly reaffirmed what I already knew, but I am glad to hear it because I was recently teaching in Cambodia with other local teachers. We were using the Headway coursebook, and they were very stubborn about only doing the coursebook. If I added supplementary lessons or activities they viewed it as going off course. Their main concern was progressing through the book, irregardless if the students were actually effectively absorbing the content. Teaching at this school could be a bit frustrating sometimes.
