Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

In this unit I learned about speaking and writing skills and the various methods in which to teach them. Both skills are used to accomplish the task of communication but are taught in different ways. Some speaking activities are focused on fluency while others are focused on accuracy. There are many activities to hone in on both categories such as role-play and discussions for fluency and drilling activities for accuracy. However, students must feel compelled to engage in conversation and become interested in the topic in order for success to occur. This, along with other methods such as pair work and group work can be used to combat reluctant classroom participation. After activities, teachers should provide feedback in a positive manner, focusing on improvement and not errors. When it come to writing, there are many factors that play a part in learning. It is very different from learning speaking because it presents many differences. Handwriting, spelling and punctuation are a few of the main factors in learning to write in English. Handwriting is likely to cause troubles for some due to many differences in cultural alphabets/lettering. The English language contains a degree of difficulty due to its non phonetic origin which causes spelling to be frustrating to learn. Punctuation can be used to create a certain style of writing but is mainly directed at creating structure in the writing. This chapter has taught me many effective methods/ways of teaching speaking and writing skills in the classroom. Also, various ways on how to combat the common issue of classroom shyness or reluctancy. Providing interesting topics is one great way to spark classroom discussions that provide a flow of information from students. The unit provides a great structure and examples for implementing these activities into a classroom ESA lesson plan. It has shown me how we can implement a number of games into classroom teaching tools that are fun and engaging. It has given me many ideas on how to plan lessons and involve some fun game time as well when teaching speaking and writing.
