Unit 12 covered speaking and writing. With speaking, there are different activities to elicit accurate and/or fluent speaking from the learner. Accuracy is needed during the study stage, and activities such as drilling, prompting, and guided role-plays help this along. Fluency is found more within the Activate stage and the importance is mostly on getting the student to experiment and use the language freely. Writing is a productive skill that is usually not worked on much within the classroom, however it is very important. Handwriting, spelling, punctuation and layout are all needed for clear and easy to understand writing.
