When teaching a student to write in English may come with some difficulties. Some languages write from right to left, have no punctuation, or don't even use the same alphabet. With these differences in languages it is important that the teacher be aware of the individual struggles of the students to address them. Fluency is the ability to speak without stopping to think. Fluency activities are usually a part of the activate stage. Accuracy focuses on correct usage of grammar and the activities that focus on accuracy are usually a part of the study stage. Controlled activities are typically for the study phase and they include drilling, eliciting vocabulary, etc. Guided activities can be used for both study and activate phases but is accuracy based. Creative communication is fluency based and is best used for activate phase the activities really require the students to talk. You can have the students free role-play, discussions, debates, simulations, information gaps, and other communications games. It is important to make the students feel comfortable and stimulated to participate.
