Authentic materials are materials in English that native speakers would be exposed to. Authentic materials can be used to interest and motivate students, but need to be selected carefully by the teacher in order to be understood by the learner.
Created materials are designed for the level of the learner by the teacher. Examples include crosswords, word search puzzles, role-play cards, flashcards, picture stories, etc.
Course book advantages: less time consuming for the teacher than to make materials from scratch, progressive/scaffolding, and has a mix of grammar, vocabulary, listening, and reading.
Course book disadvantages: students may not be interested, books may be outdated, classes can be boring, books may not have relatable material for the nationality of the students.
