I have learned a great deal about different teaching methods. Both some that is not that productive, some that is rather outdated ( audio lingual ism), and what is most used today. I have read about that the TEFL course is build up by the methods of Jeremy Harmer, who introduced ESA : Engage, Study, Activate. It is very interesting to learn about so many different games and ways to build up the class. All depending on the level of the students, the amount of students, but also that there needs to be variation in the classes, to keep the motivation and excitement from the students. I have learned about in which stage of the class (ESA), there should be correction, and when there should be none, also how the correction should be made. That the student should always be allowed to try to correct themselves, thereafter there should be a chance for a classmate to correct, and last the teacher should correct. I like the fact that there's a great focus on, that it's better for the student to learn the English language in a natural way, like when we learned our L1 language when very young. With that it also means, that the most you get exposed to the language, listening, reading etc, the better. It also means that it's important to allow the students to speak freely without correction, and let them try for themselves. That it's better for the students to have more speak time than constant listening to the teacher. I'm very excited to try out all of the methods myself, and experience on my own hand, what suits in which class, situation and day.
