Unit 16 explores conditionals and reported speech. The unit discusses five common conditionals spoken in English with the understanding there are exceptions to the rules. Zero conditional is used in irrefutable situations using the form: if/when + present tense then present tense. The first conditional is for real possible situations: if + present tense, then will (or modal). The second conditional is for hypothetical situations: if + past tense, modal + verb. The third conditional is for past hypothetical situations: if + past perfect, modal + have + past participle. When you mix the third and second conditionals, then you have the mixed conditional used past hypothetical situation with a present outcome. The rest of the unit discusses how to report speech in English. Words like pronouns and time days need to be changed as well as various present tenses need to be changed to past tenses should the situation have passed.
