The experiences I've had while teaching in American classrooms have led me to believe that many students are apprehensive, or at least shy, about using their productive skills. Using a strong, thoughtfully constructed ESA framework teachers can engage their students in an activity in a manner that often helps students "forget" that they are being measured, and therefore they are able to relax more.
Something I've noticed these units continue to repeat is when feedback is appropriate, and when it is inappropriate. This too allows students to relax during the course of the engage and study phases. I've noticed that even if a student feels excited about a lesson I can still turn them off from producing something if I make a mistake with my feedback.
As mentioned in previous units, students expect feedback. However, I'm growing more and more conscious about the appropriate manner to which offer corrections.
