The theme of this unit is about vocabulary and the grammatical structures . It talks about the selection of vocabulary,what students needs to learn about it and the techniques to teach it.
With the grammatical section it specifies the importance of students needing to know what the language means , how it is used and the form it takes in writing and speaking . It gives the ways to teach grammar. It talks about the function of the language and appropriate use of the language. It suggests that a boomerang or patchwork approach is the better way to teach these components as the activation phase is very important for learning both function and appropriateness.
I loved the analogy of the grammar being the trunk and branches and the vocabulary and function are the leaves and give beauty to the language . This has really helped my understanding of both teaching and learning a new language.
