This unit has allowed me to better understand the utilization and purpose of different tests., especially for a teacher like me who is not familiar with the traditional teaching system. In Montessori education, children are rarely given tests as we try to avoid ranking students and generalizing students of the same age group into one category. We believe in children with different abilities and levels and each child learns at their own pace. However, this unit made me realize the importance of knowing where and which level the child is at by giving them progress tests. A diagnostic test is also important to determine which level children are at.
