We learned about creative materials- which are made for your language learning student and authentic materials- real life articles, books, songs, shows, etc. created for native speakers. Their importance is for the students to see some 'authentic' things from the new language that could relate to their lives and lesson. We learn some examples of created materials for what lesson one might be teaching using crossword puzzles, role plays, flashcards, gap- information etc. We then learn about course books- their advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include providing tried information and syllabus for the class. It's disadvantages may be that it is outdated or irrelevant to the topic you may be teaching. Teachers has a right to look into their course book use and or omit unnecessary topics. A good teach will do both using helpful material but cautiously reviewing it to see if it fits the needs of their class as well as bringing in other information to back up the course book.
