Course books are extremely helpful when planning classes. Many of them have a detailed syllabus and various exercises to use during the STUDY stage. The exercises can also be used as homework. Although there are some disadvantages such as outdated materials, predictable lesson procedures, and focus on some very vague language issues excluding particular needs of the students. In order to tailor your lessons to each group of students it is compulsory to use supplementary materials which can be either authentic or created by teachers. Authentic materials are often discouraging for beginners because they are exposed to the real language regardless to their level which is quite different from what they have been taught. In this case teachers are recommended to use created materials in order to achieve good comprehension and tackle particular problems.
