This unit explains main principles in teaching productive skills which are speaking and writing. There are numerous approaches in teaching those none of which are possible without outlining main issues of productive skills. Writing is a complex part of the English language because there is a number of sounds that sound the same but are written differently. Moreover the number of sounds in a word very seldom matches the number of letters in it which makes writing discouraging for beginners. Writing also requires a high degree of accuracy.
