I know tests are often given in language courses. It's pretty common. I also know they can be helpful for reviewing information and gauging where a student was at. I also could have guessed that most schools and institutions likely require them for admission to courses and for jobs. However, I did not expect so many different types of external exams! All aimed at accomplishing different things. How does a teacher figure out which kind of test to help prepare her students for? I will have to go research this more in my free time.
