Choosing the best coursebook or materials for a particular class has many difficulties and is made complicated by the fact that the choice depends a lot on individual teaching style and the makeup of the students you are working with. There is no right or wrong way when choosing a coursebook or material but this unit gives tips for choosing the most appropriate book and material based on factors like language level, nationality, age, etc. Often times the teacher will not have a choice in the coursebook and the book may be outdated, not relevant or boring to the students. In these cases, the teacher will then have to supplement the book with authentic or created materials to engage the students’ interests.
