This unit is on the productive language skills of speaking and writing. Both speaking and writing are used to communicate but speaking is generally the primary focus of most language courses. Writing however, should not be ignored and is vital in our daily lives from business to the now integral communications on the internet. Both speaking and writing lessons present their own challenges and this unit has very useful lesson plan examples. For speaking the two points to stress are accuracy and fluency. Accuracy is usually covered in the study phases and controlled by the teacher. Whereas fluency is more for the activate stage and is more creative as the student is choosing their words and phrases. When considering a writing lesson, aspects like penmanship, grammar and spelling are important but often corrected on an individual basis as opposed to in the classroom lesson. The unit has a great example of a typical creative writing lesson and also a reference for well-known games with TEFL applications.
