While many students want to learn english to communicate orally it cannot be dismissed that communication is also written and there are factors to consider when teaching written versions of english that are sometimes overlooked. Just like vocabulary it is important to keep students motivated and connected to the topics. It is important that students feel confidence to both speak and write and make mistakes and so it is a good idea to look at your activities in two different ways, whether you are teaching something to elicit creative writing and the use of new vocabulary or if you are focusing on accuracy which might involve more drills or repetition based activities where the teacher controls the outcome or one were it doesnt' matter what the students say as long as they follow the general prompt.
