This unit talked about the necessity on feedback and testing during the teaching process. Some ways to evaluate progress are tutorials, group feedback, and exams. Exams are used at different times to measure different details. For example, a placement exam measures a student's starting proficiency in English so as to choose the appropriate class for him in terms of linguistic difficulty. Progress exams measure how much the student is retaining what has been taught. Practice tests measure how well a student is preparing for an external exam, which some English-speaking institutions use to measure one's proficiency in English, for business or schooling. In some form or another, teachers need to get feedback in order to know how their students are progressing, that they might teach more effectively.
